Feature Friday: Cindy Werenka
Today's featured employee is Cindy Werenka from the Truro location! Cindy manages the wholesale division of My Home Apparel and also works in the shop. She is a hard working mom of 2 boys who came to work for us just for a Christmas season 1.5 years ago and we haven’t let her leave. She has an incredible work ethic, believes in the business, is a great team player, and most importantly, has a smile that brightens the gloomiest days.
Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Cindy Werenka, I live in a busy household in Hilden with my husband Trevor, my boys Cullen and Tanner, our dog Reese, two cats Sophie and Oliver and a Betta fish named Mr. Noodle.
In my spare time, I like to do anything outside - hiking, bird watching, snowshoeing, swimming, yoga, etc! I also have a creative side that I like to flex from time to time. I love cooking, baking, drawing, painting, and gardening.
When is the last time you did something for the first time, and what was it?
The last new thing I tried was meditation (Yoga Nidra) to calm my brain and help me sleep at night. So far, it has been a great experience.
What's your favourite kind of pie?
My favourite pie? I have to choose just one?? I guess I would have to say strawberry/rhubarb if I HAD to choose. But whatever is in front of me would work too!
Where do you always like to visit?
We often visit the Tatamagouche/Brule area especially in the summer.
There are great walking and biking trails there, and of course we always visit to the market and shops in town.
Other spots that I really love are Annapolis Valley and Cape Breton - family favourites of ours. There are so many beautiful spots to check out, it’s difficult to narrow it down.
What's the best thing that ever happened to you?
Instinctively, I wanted to say my husband and kids are the best things to happen to me. And although that would be true, one of the best things that has ever happened to me is when I became self-aware. I know what I like, what I want and what I believe, in regardless of popular opinion. Some might see it as selfish or stubborn, but I’m okay with that. I live how I need to to be happy. I cherish great food, great wine, true friends, and the ability to find something good in every day - even the shitty ones.
