What inspired you to start your own business?

My business sort of blossomed from a hobby. I moved away from my family in Ontario to Alberta in 2015 for a job opportunity. I have always been on the crafty side and as a child made friendship bracelets for family and friends, and even while I was still living in Ontario I dabbled in jewelry making. It wasn't until I started wearing my own creations to work, and co-workers started commenting on my pieces that I transitioned my hobby into a business. The funny thing is I studied business in University and always had a feeling I would own my own business, just never knowing what it would be. I officially started TISH jewelry in 2016, and have found my passion for creating beautiful pieces of jewelry for women!

What are some of the challenges you face as an entrepreneur?

I find time management being one of the hardest things to balance as an entrepreneur - especially of a small business. You wear many hats including designer, photographer, website designer and customer service representative just to name a few. I learned quick that you have to be super organized and really focus on the tasks necessary or else your mind can wander to a million different places. I have come up with a routine of using my wall calendar for important deadlines as well as making daily lists of everything going on.

What advice would you give to others looking to become makers or creators?

Go For It! You don't have to dive in with both feet first, you can start small then learn and grow from there. If you are passionate about something, I think you owe it to yourself to try it out otherwise in the future you may regret it.
